We got a lot of snow up here, and down in Toledo last night. Some friends were going to come up today and bring Zachery to stay overnight with me, but with the roads, it's just not worth the risk. Tomorrow grandma's and Zach are coming up. :)
Yesterday was a big day for Avery. They took her off the vent and she is doing well and is happy to have it out. They also stopped giving her morphine (which is good) except she didn't get any other pain meds all day and at 8:00 last night she still hadn't gotten anything and was not happy. She coughed and that hurt, so she cried, then crying hurt, so she cried more and all I could do was hold her hands and we gave her a pacifier (which helped a bit). I was praying that the nurse would give her some kind of pain reliever, and then she gave her a "spit" of morphine or just a bit, and that calmed her down, whew. I'd been hinting about the pain meds and maybe I should have just demanded the pain meds. When she was crying, she did squeak out a few sounds, and it sounded a little like a duck. :) I'm sure she'll find her voice soon enough.
Avery changed beds, so now she is in a crib. When they changed beds, I was able to hold her for awhile! yay.
There are a couple things she still needs to get "fixed" yet (but no one is too worried, so I'm not):
1. There is a part of her lungs that still hasn't fully expanded and the respiratory therapists are working on it. They've been vibrating her lungs, and pounding on her back to help loosen things up.
2. Eating is another. Her digestive system is still sluggish. They did give her some milk a couple days ago through a tube, but it didn't work very well. I'm sure it'll just take a little time is all.
3. Her blood gas (oxygen and carbon monoxide levels, ph and something else) is drawn every few hours to check how her levels are. She's always (for her whole 2+ weeks) measured a little high on her CO2 levels and they'd like it to go down, but maybe her norm will be high.
This is probably too much information. She's doing alright.
My very talented friend, Tanya Dunn has taken some more photos of Avery and you can go to her website to see her second installment. :) Thank you Tanya! (I don't think you can tell from the photos, but Avery was opening her eyes at one point and I was trying to get her to look at me and smile!)

I really do try not to be the first to comment. You know, to avoid looking desperate... but yes, I check this thing multiple times each day. ;)
Renae, she is TOO beautiful and sweet (just like her mama - you look wonderful), and you two look great together(!!). Great pictures, Tanya.
Never too many details...
I am so glad she is off the vent, that is great! How wonderful that she is feeling well and I am sure that a rest in Mommy's arms was just what she was looking for. The photos are beautiful, I am so happy that your friend is taking pictures for you and Avery. We continue to pray for her progress and for your whole family to be comforted.
