One Step at a Time

Sometimes I wonder why I write Avery updates on here, because I'll put something here, then it's all different the next day. Avery went back to the PCTU (pediatric cardio thoracic unit) today. Moderate Care called this morning and said she was "having trouble" breathing and her "sats were low"...so they wanted to put an i.v. back in to give her some meds, but weren't able to get one into her foot (nice thought). Consequently they sent her back to PCTU so they could put a line in. PCTU doctors want to avoid putting an i.v. in, to save her bigger veins for later surgeries. So, no additional iv's were put in, but she seemed to calm down once she got back to PCTU.

Well, as the day progressed, I found out that she had actually thrown up and probably asperated. So, they stopped feeding her anything til 6:20 p.m. Avery was so fussy, and I know she was hungry!! Finally she got some food and calmed down. I think she has a bit of a cold too. I'd said something last night to her nurse, that her nose was running (which hadn't happened yet) and she keeps sneezing. Either to placate me, or assuage a parent's fears, the nurse said it's probably from the moisture in her high flow oxygen tube. Anyhoo (Eric doesn't like it when I use that word :) ), Avery's nurse right now thinks she might have a cold too. thank you.

My dad says she takes two steps forward and one back. So I say lets just take one at a time.

Zachery and my mom drove back to Toledo this morning. :) Zachery was sufficiently clingy one minute and adventurous and disobedient the next. I love him though. Good luck, mom!

You post every day because you know we all want to know how things are going up there. Hang in there, little Avery. :( :) As long as the steps forward outnumber the steps back... lots of love to you and your girl!

Renae,

This is Monique (Stewart) Chapman and I found you through Heather and I hope you don't mind me seeing how you are doing. This little one is blessed to have you. Do you mind me sending this to my mom? She has been wondering about "Her Girls." I'll be praying for Avery AND you.

Thanks as always for the updates. Even though things change, we all still want to hear about everything! And this will be a great journal for you someday. We continue to think about and pray for you. And send our love from warm, sunny AZ! ;)
