Crazy Life, Good Life

This morning I had to get away. I called Avery's nurse to find out how she was doing and she'd been crying for 45 minutes and nothing seemed to help calm her down so she got some oxycodone and tylenol. I figured she would be sleeping then, so I hopped in the car (thanks Rob & Kim) and went to Meijer. Somer calls it retail therapy :) and I just ordered some photos and browsed.

When I got back to the hospital, I couldn't go in and see Avery yet (we have to call back to the unit in case they're working on/with a patient in your room). So went to a scrapbooking session down by the NICU that they have once a week. I haven't been before and the timing worked out perfect. I just mention this because I met a lady there who had had triplets 3 months prior and Avery had been in the same NICU room with this lady's baby. She said her one baby died after 6 hours, another after 24 days and the third is doing alright! I have nothing to complain about. Can I imagine? I don't think so. This mother said she was doing alright with everything. It wasn't the first day of dealing with this. Time seems to work magic sometimes.

When I finally got to see Avery, she had started making a sound they call, stridor. Some ENT (ear, nose, throat) folks came and had looked at her vocal cords and said the left half of her cords was "paralyzed" causing this sound. They're going to do a swallow study tomorrow to see if it will effect her eating. She could have trouble with regurgitating. It gets better, the paralysis goes away (usually). For now she makes a sound as she breathes, but she breathes!

Avery could even go back to Moderate Care tomorrow. Her other stats seem to be okay.
Fa-la-la-la-la la-la-la-la (from "Tis the Season to be Jolly"). :)

"Lost" is on tonight. If Avery moves back to Moderate Care, my carefree days are over because I'll have to camp out more so there, to make sure she's alright.

I'm glad you took a few minutes to get away. I hope you are feeling better. It is remarkable how the experiences of others can help lift us up during trials and it sounds like you met a great person to share your time with. Scrapbooking soothes the soul, whether you actually complete a page or just visit the whole time.

I'm so happy Avery is doing well otherwise. Kiersten has started to ask to hold baby Avery since she has said/heard her name during family prayers. We look forward to our girls meeting her in the future and continue to think of you all. Hopefully Toledo marks the spot for us!

I'm so glad you got some retail therapy. There is something so great about doing something normal when nothing seems very normal. Stridor sounds scary than it is. You start to get used to it. I'm glad things are steady. We love you and your family. Hang in there. Its so worth it.

Shopping cures every ill, too bad Avery couldn't go with you or I am sure she would be all better too! What a rollercoaster, like you said. I am glad that you were able to get out for a little.
