Today was a good day. Avery slept through the entire night, and even had a dry diaper in the morning! Potty trained, we're good.
They put her out and looked down her throat and found that her airway below her vocal cords is very restricted. That's been causing all her breathing problems. I'm glad it went well and they were able to find out what was wrong. Now, to treat it, she is getting steroids (reduce swelling) and Prevacid (an antacid). On Friday they'll do another bronchoscopy and if her airway is looking better, she'll be able to go home with these added meds and continue with tube feeds. On the other hand, if there's been no improvement, (and I quote the ENT doc) "we'll talk trach again".
These docs, (there was an ENT resident with him as well) had brought a consent form for the procedures today and had written in "tracheotomy" (or however you spell it) and I said I wasn't comfortable signing that. So I crossed that out and said we'd have to have another conversation before that would happen. Avery's surgeon, Dr. Hirsch even said, "I'm not interested in a trach". Now, I know people have them and need them and it's okay, but if Avery can avoid it and be fine, then I'll certainly assert my opinion! I'm the mom, and for now, the boss of Avery. j/k I had a childhood incident where I told a friend's mom, "You're not the boss of me" and ended up being grounded and having to apologize, with a flower, to her.
I gave Avery a bath tonight and got the goo out of her hair from the iv in her head. I love to do what I can, I don't mind changing her little diapers.
Avery had grandparents day today. Grandma Christensen was up here and spent time holding her. Then Grandma and Grandpa Marks came up tonight and both sat and held Avery too. Lil' Avery is growing, a bit, and more alert each day. We love her!
Please, if and when you pray, please pray for Avery's airway, that the drugs will reduce the swelling. Thank you.
Have a great day!

Hi Renae. You're doing great. Stand up for what you believe. She is your daughter and you are the one who will take care of her. Don't let anyone make decisions for you. I think you are taking this all remarkably well, (and I don't know where you get the idea that you complain a lot?!) Keep it up, you are her best advocate. Love you, Somer
Renae, thanks for the update. Avery & your family are always in our prayers (my kids never forget) but we will be sure to be more specific now that we know what she needs. If there's anything else I can do please let me know!
Of course she will be in our prayers! Make sure you let your wants be known, mothers do know best! Good luck this week.
I love the clever title of your post! :) Glad to get this report! And thanks for giving us something specific to pray about. You're doing a great job!
love your daily posts and read them daily, as well. It's good you ARE the boss of lil Avery...someone must exert their power.
On the personal side, altho it might have sounded rude for you to comment like that to another adult, and i don't have all the details, I still think in today's world, I'd much rather have a child KNOW and SPEAK up against anyone who was NOT their boss, their parent, etc. So I'm sorry you had to apologize with a flower. Apology would have been enough...with the explanation that you had to knew who governed you.
But that's my very opinionate opinion.
Renea, I am so glad you and your daughter are doing alright. We miss you! You are in my thoughts and prayers!
