Zach has been trying to speak a little spanish here and there. It has something to do with Avery's love for Dora, which she watches while she is tube fed. For example, we were in Micheal's craft store and Zach started asking me what certain items were, then he'd reply, "oh, that's ----- " clearly making up a word and saying it was in spanish. It was funny, but after awhile I just said, Okay just talk in english. I didn't know what he was saying anymore. I love his enthusiasm for it though.
Tonight, as we knealt to pray, Zach said he wanted to pray in spanish, so with a mix of my high school spanish and mission portuguese knowledge, we did it. He did stick in a few extra "maria's" and I'm not sure what he thinks that means. I'll have to ask him tomorrow. :) It was great. I'd say it in english first, or have him ask in english, then I'd translate it. Thankfully our Heavenly Father speaks all languages, mixed up ones too, with extra maria's and all.

Season's Greetings
Happy Holidays! We had a nice Christmas at home, followed by some family coming over for dinner. Zachery was so excited for Christmas and could hardly sit still on Christmas Eve while we talked about the nativity story. He came into our room on Christmas morning and jumped on our bed. His excitement makes the holidays so fun. On the other hand, Avery has had a fever for about 4 days, which put a damper on things, but she is feeling better now. Eric and I are feeling ill now, but with medicine, life goes on. I feel like someone's been sick in our house since the beginning of October. May we all be healthy soon!
Last month we went to Toledo's Imagination Station. We have a pass and I'm looking forward to using it during our cold months, that is if we can stay healthy.
I love this. Avery took a doll and started hugging it and then found this stethescope and knew what to do. Kind of anyway, she doesn't like the earpiece on her ears. She played with the dolls for awhile, it was cute.
Zach had a trip to the dentist. It'd been about 2 years, or more, so it was time. My sometimes timid Zach started out concerned, even though we'd talked about what would happen...
but after he got to wear sunglasses, it was okay. Go Zachery!
These next two pictures were taken at Thanksgiving dinner. Avery looks like she has a rather large tooth in there, but it was a bit of food. She took about 20 laps around our long table as soon as we got there. It was her version of her "feats of strength" activity for Festivus.
A gentleman was playing nice music while everyone ate, and after he left, the kids all wanted to come and play a bit. Zach was singing and playing here with his uncle Dave and cousin James.

Hold Me
Life can be so crazy! Today I forgot a couple of key things and I feel horrid about it. I shared one of the incidents with someone tonight and she said, "I wish I could take it from you." (what I had forgotten wasn't so bad as how it made someone else feel.) That was nice of her to say. That made me think two things, 1)Our Savior suffered and died for us, to take away pain from us if we just repent and follow Him, 2)I'm glad to have to deal with things myself sometimes.
Happy Birthday Susie, Somer, Abbie and Alison! I think today takes the cake for the most birthdays of people I know. :)
Avery wanted to be held today. To sit on my lap, really, and watch Blues Clues or Paz. My kids are growing before my eyes and someday they'll be teenagers and that's a whole 'nother ball of wax, so I hear. Today I just wanted to squeeze them and hug them and tell them how I love them. (but not the whole day, because being couped up inside has it's limits).
I'm just writing here.... Many of you may know of an 8 year old boy in our church who was just diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and hasn't much time expected left. I hardly know what to say. I can't wrap my head around it all. Tomorrow he is getting baptized along with his cousin, something he's excited to do. Send love and prayers to Gabe DuBois and his family.

Merry Christmas
I have visions of witty/interesting blogging going on daily, but alas, reality hits.
Instead I type out what comes out of my mind (you poor souls, and I refuse to edit).
My list of goings-on at the Marks's home this past week:
1-Zachery turned 5 and we celebrated. When I say "we", I mean dad and mom celebrate making it too, whew. ;) No, really we celebrate the sweet boy who we're blessed with.
2-Over-scheduled weekend! Sunday night we were exhausted. During the Christmas devotional, someone talked about simplifying things. There are so many wonderful things you can do (make, send, bake, shop, decorate...) and I know I get overwhelmed by what I should be doing and feel guilty for what I don't do.
3-We went to the wonderful Nativity Festival in Perrysburg. The nativities were beautiful and I liked seeing the variety. The kids room was awesome. Unfortunately, Avery had just eaten and as she was bending over, she coughed and out it all came. There were many horrifyied looks as I glanced up. I knew that she wasn't done emptying her stomach and so moving her would only leave a nice trail, so...I tried to "catch" it in my hands. It only splattered on myself. Leisy kindly wiped some off my face as I left the room. ugh. Just one of those things that happens sometimes, at the zoo, at the park, or at the GAP. :) It's kind of funny, now. *I have to shout out a big THANK YOU to those 3 individuals who helped clean up our mess. When I got back from the restroom, they had pulled out the industrial magic powder stuff and vacuumed up all our shenanigans. They wouldn't let us help. (perhaps we'd done enough. :)
Thanks to all of you who worked so hard to put that together! Loved it.
4-Avery slept from 6:20 p.m. til 7:45 a.m. last night! I assure you that has never happened before and I loved it.
5-Zach got a 24 hour stomach bug and that same night #4, he woke up 5 times. Thankfully he is all better and asked for a lot of food today, which I gladly gave.
6-My mom and Eric's grandma both had birthdays Wednesday. Great ladies with hearts of gold.
7-Flat tire.
8-(I need to end on a positive note) Christmas is 2 weeks away! Fa la la la la, la la la la. Wish everyone you see a "Merry Christmas". The best way to get in the spirit of Christmas is to help someone else out. "Have I done any good in the world today, have I helped anyone in need? Have I cheered up the sad, or made someone feel glad, if not I have failed indeed..." It's a good song.

I can hardly believe Zachery is 5! We are so happy to have Zach in our family and we love watching him grow.

Tuesday
Today was crazy and good. I'm worn out, but happy, and what a great way to end a day.
After an appointment for me, Avery's g-tube came out and I couldn't get it back in. Panicking a little I took her to the ped's surgeon's office. On the phone, they said to hurry, but when I got there, they didn't seem to think we needed to hurry. At least Avery was happy, even though she was past due to eat, yay. When we got started though, she cried the whole time and it took awhile to get it back in. Have you seen the dilaters/dialaters, they're smooth metal sticks of varying thickness. There were three of us holding and working with her and we were all sweating. Poor kid. Hallelujah it was put back in. Thank you Shelly for watching Zach for me!
About the g-tube though, it was my fault. The spirit was telling me to: 1) change her g-tube, 2) put her in a different outfit today (she had on one with a hole for her g-tube access and she kept messing with it) and 3) check the water in the g-tube balloon. It was horrible, just a little stressful, but I didn't heed to promptings I was given, soooooo lesson learned (again.) :).
Tonight I hosted a book club and had a great time. More than discussing the book, I love parties/social type stuff. I'm not an avid reader, but I do love book club. Fun night, great people!

and there's a few more that I can't think of now, but give me a few of yours. When the mood strikes me, I do love a good book.
