Today at church, Zachery looked so nice. Eric had gotten him all dressed up in a suit jacket his great grandma had given him. But just cuz you look nice doesn't mean you'll act nice. Zach wanted to yell during the sacrament and between me and a nice lady at church, we took him out 3 times. Hello! crazy kid. The nice lady must have a magic touch because Zach calmed down after that. I tried not to cry and enjoy the meeting. Ah well, it's over and the little dear is sleeping now. I always wanted a boy with some spunk and character, but not during the sacrament. :)
We went to our ward's Christmas party last night. It was a fun evening with breakfast, Santa and skits. Zachery decided to go on stage, but tried throwing basketballs off. Thankfully someone was there trying to stop the balls from going off stage, as I was yelling at Zach from off stage. Why can't he just participate like the other kids? Basketball is more fun than being a shepherd, but not when you need to just be a shepherd. Oh well, that too passed. I think I got another grey hair today! Oh Zach, I love you.

No, nice outfits make kids go crazy in church! TODAY, Scarlett wore this most adorable new dress (her doll had a matching one)...for some reason, she wanted to yell YELL in sacrament. She was having a blast throwing trains and bopping the kid behind us on the head. Finally, I took her out. She was so psyched over her new fashion...Zach and Scarlett were on the same wavelength today FOR SURE!
I know it may not feel like it to you- but all the other kids aren't exactly being angels either! I saw quite a few delinquent angels and wisemen up there on stage! and the only thing that keeps me sitting still during sacrament meetings is a good stash of m&ms in my bag! maybe that would work for zach :) oh- and he did look quite handsome in his little suit.
Seriously, the nicer they look the harder it is to sit still. I'm sure the best thing about the Nativity Program were the "misbehaving" kiddos. Those who don't have kids in the programs, enjoy the kids with spunk doing their own thing. I'm with the kids, I'd like to yell in Sacrament sometimes. Ever since my second was about 9 months I've been petitioning for them to make Sacrament about ten minutes shorter and cut out the "rest" hymn. The Rest Hymn makes my kids think it's time to go, only to be dissapointed and have to listen to another talk. My older boys (ten and 9) shake their head at the girls when they think it's time to go- they tell them, "it's always longer than you think!"
I totally remember when my kids were little and Mark was helping his deacons quorum pass the sacrament -- (so I was alone with the kids) -- and Matthew stood upon the bench and bellowed SO loud "Mom! I need to go POO!"
I was like -- wow. Way to invite the spirit. Sigh.
Your Zach sounds pretty darn normal.
We loved having Zach in our sunbeam class and miss him. His smile is contangious. We enjoy your updates. Thanks.
This sounds like my every Sunday. For some reason, kids are usually better for other people. This totally makes me feel like a bad mom when someone else can control them better than me. Hang in there! I hear that one day we will miss it - or at least we'll enjoy watching others go through it!
