Holla, holla, holla. It's 10:30 pm and I'm dog tired (poor dogs being so dog tired all the time and never regular tired). It was a beautiful day and I took Zach and Avery out to walk (they ride and I walk) in the park and then to chat and play. It was nice and I thought that'd get Zach through the day, get the wiggles out. Apparently wiggles are regenerated.
Avery has been doing alright. My favorite thing about her is her big smile. Her eyes smile and I get the wide, gummy smile. :) I hope to post a photo of it next week. Avery weighed in today at 9 lbs. and 7 oz., yay, growing steadily!
I am growing increasingly nervous about Avery's name. I loved it and still am loving it, but she's been called "he" a lot. Today a woman from our insurance company even said they had Avery listed as a boy, and when I asked her if the name sounded feminine to her, she said no! What?! Apparently on the sitcom "Murphy Brown", Murphy's son was called, Avery. ugh. My consolation here was this otherwise nice lady is older and most of my peers associate Avery as a girl's name. The comments are almost daily. Avery sounds feminine to me! I'll try my darndest to make her at least look like a girl.
What's in a name? Coming up with a name for your child is hard. A name lasts and you don't want it to cause any kind of mocking because of it. With the name "Zachery" I am completely happy with. I was also happy with Avery, but now, each time someone thinks she's a boy (just from the name and not the pink/girly clothes she wears) it makes me re-think my choice. I guess if it gets bad, she can go by her middle name, Alyse. :) My maternal grandma was one of 14 kids (hello!! 14 ) and they all went by their middle names, which I think is so cool.
Happy Memorial Day weekend!

You're so funny! My sister named two of her daughters Presley & Keeton, and they were always called "he" until they were much older (like 2+). Didn't help that they were bald until 2 also. ;) But everyone will get used to it. No worries! I have several Averys in my extended fam, and they are boys.... but it is a family last name. These days I only have heard of little girls named Avery. It's a darling name. And I'm glad to hear all is well!
both kent and zeb go by their middle names! and there was a little boy named avery in my last ward and everybody thought that he was a girl because the name avery is so feminine. I think that it's a cute and perfect girl's name!
I have a friend whose daughter is named Avery. It is a girl name. If someone chose to name their boy Avery...he may have future issues. Don't worry, she will be just fine and her name is wonderful! Apparently there is a crater on the moon named Avery. See very cool!
I think only people that watched Murphy Brown would come to the conclusion that Avery is a boy's name. I never saw the show so I definitely don't think that. It sounds feminine to me!
Renae, I have gone through similar doubts with all of my babies! Sometimes the name just didn't seem right at first or a comment or two was made. So I totally understand how you are feeling. Avery is a beautiful name and so is Alyse - either way she'll be happy.
The name Avery is one of my favorite girl names, ever! I love it! And I think it fits your little girlie just perfectly! :)
I like how you are little loopier now with two kids. You have joined the club which steps closer to maternal insanity each day. Yeah.... now image your brain with those 14 kids!
Avery's a beautiful name. Unisex, but so is Aryn :). Glad for all the updates on you guys... can't wait for a picture of the big grin!
You know what I think of Avery! It's a fantastic name...for a girl! Although historically it was a boy's name...nowadays, it's more common as a girl's name! Don't change it! Don't doubt yourself either!
I love that name Avery!! It's a very pretty and feminine name! Never thought it sounded masculine at all! I hadn't heard it before either so it's not overly used, which is good! As far as using middle names goes, I think she will like her name just fine and won't need to use it! My Dad wanted to name me Sarah and my mom wanted to name me either Angelina (ohh could you imagine that?) or Michelle or Kimberly. All them are fine to me except the Angelina one. If I got that one, I would go by my middle name...just call me Denise!
Renae,
My brother says "Avery is an name for old men and little girls" and I have found it to be true. We usually get "she", so no fears!
